as you play the video you can watch "launch.exe" start using massive amounts of ram and that little blue area will expand until you are out of memory or it has cached the entire video. The wierd little blue markers that show up just below the red dot on the time slider is actually the amount of video that has been decoded into memory. 24 gigabytes for 6 minutes of 1080p 30fps video at 15megabit encoding rate. When editing video it has to be decoded that can be 10 times the size of the file on your hard drive. openshot also does not hit the cpu 100% on multicore even when exporting even with performance mode set to "process frames in parallel" it is memory bandwidth intensive so the cpu does not hit 100% max like a blender render. make sure the cache mode is set to memory and set the memory amount to at least 50% of your physical memory preferable to 75%. This issue is caching, under edit menu - preferences - cache tab.
